Self-hosting taught me more about servers in one month than years of reading ever did

I knew DNS propagation could take up to 48 hours, that TTL limits record lifespan, and that port 443 is used for HTTPS. I had watched enough tutorials to be able to hold my own in a conversation about reverse proxies. Yet when I decided to host my Vaultwarden instance, I discovered those concepts didn't survive contact with a real server.
