[The Next Web] Microsoft starts shipping HoloLens to devs today


Microsoft is taking another step in building its holographic technology, the HoloLens. Announced at Microsoft Build in San Francisco, Microsoft’s Alex Kipman announced that the dev model would be shipped today to devs. The dev kit, which was announced last month, currently costs a hefty $3000. In addition to shipping the HoloLens, Microsoft is releasing its community-voted application — a tool called ‘Galaxy Explorer’ — on both the Windows Store and Github. So, developers who are interested in concepts explored within the app, including spatial mapping and gestures, can pick apart the code and figure out how to make it work…
